NEW YORK, June 20, 2006 Stones Throw Records and eMusic, the worlds largest digital retailer of independent music, are teaming up to offer the DJ community and hip-hop fans their first digital-only 12-inch single. On June 21, eMusic will offer underground hip-hop producer/MC Oh Nos single Gets Mine (featuring Buckshot) from the upcoming album Exodus Into Unheard Rhythms as the sites free Daily Download. The track will be FREE until the albums release date on August 8. This will mark the first time an independent label has pushed a traditional 12 single exclusively through the eMusic service to promote an upcoming album.
Stones Throw Records has historically catered to the vinyl-prominent DJ community via the label's expansive catalogue of 12 singles. This marks the first in a series of Stones Throw 12-inch releases that will be distributed exclusively through eMusic, allowing Stones Throw to interact with the DJ community on a whole new leveldigitally. With the new technology DJs utilize today (like Serato), DJs can rip it up without the wax.
Exodus Into Unheard Rhythms is Oh Nos new production project based on samples from the vast catalogue of Galt MacDermot, best known as the man behind the music from the revolutionary '60s Broadway musical Hair. Oh No will also rap on the project, alongside a host of others, including Posdnous from De La Soul, Vast Aire of Cannibal Ox, Murs, Roc C and Aloe Blacc. The B side of Gets Mine is T. Biggums featuring Dudley Perkins and Georgia Anne Muldrow.
eMusic helps labels break bands by reaching avid music fans who are interested in music outside commercial mainstream pop and hip-hop, and were very excited to partner with Stones Throw to bring Oh Nos digital 12-inch single to the DJ community and the rest of eMusics customers, said David Pakman, President and CEO of eMusic. eMusic offers all of its tracks in high quality MP3 format, which plays on any PC, Macintosh or digital music player so DJs and other music fans have the ultimate flexibility to use the track in any way they wish.
Im glad were now able to release stuff digitally as soon as its recorded, Stones Throw founder Peanut Butter Wolf said. As a DJ myself, it gives me the opportunity to put together sets on a whim.
